Description

Today in Brou's bucket list: drawing kakigoori かき氷 (crushed ice with syrup).
I'm really fond of that type of ice with macha syrup.

Speaking as a person who appreciates realism and a beginner in animating such as myself, I have to say this animation in first glance, is pretty impressive.

For instance the colouring technique you used for the Japanese shaved ice, or to be more specific, kakigori, despite being somewhat simple and water-colour like. Its simplicity didn't fail at showing the difference in colour saturation, uneven distribution of the green syrup poured on the shaved ice, due to the rough and uneven surface of this dessert item. Instead it effectively brings the kakigori portrayed in this animation closer to its common real-life counterpart we can purchase off road-side kakigori stands in japan, which have a more unorganized appearance.

On the other hand, for the creature/figure shown gulping down the kakigori in the animation, its movement is undoubtedly smooth. From it smiling at the kakigori, to it eventually gulps/absorbs the entire kakigori along with its bowl containing it then leaves, each event and movement of the creature in my opinion, transits very smoothly and naturally with little to no choppiness.

However, I would also like to point out some of the flaws I found in this animation of yours.

First off, I get that you are trying to emphasis that the creature ate the table clean in a cartoonish way, by shifting the reflection on it drastically after the creature gulped the kakigori whole. But what confuses me the most in that segment is that, the texture or the colour saturation of the seemingly metallic table also changes along with the reflection. As if different tables are replaced constantly as the reflection shift occurs.

Also, though the animation is smooth, the events transit naturally and all, I found that there are quite a few empty spaces left uncoloured both on the kakigori and on the creature during a few of the frames in its movement retracting down the table.

Moreover, during the creature's specific movement I mentioned earlier, the table seems to be somewhat transparent. Therefore, parts of the creature can be seen behind it directly within a few frames.

So I might suggest you to place a solid background behind the objects with colours greatly differentiate to each individual objects, and colour each objects individually as well. Therefore flaws can be easily noticed and fixed during production.
